On Sept. 7, more than 300 amusement park industry professionals gathered at host park Kennywood in West Mifflin, PA, to enjoy the Golden Ticket Awards ceremony. The annual celebration was established by Amusement Today in 1998 to honor the 'best of the best' parks, rides and individuals in the world.
One of the most anticipated categories, Best Wooden Coaster, featured two Kings Island wooden coasters in the top ten list this year. The world's longest wooden coaster, The Beast, took the #3 spot, and 2017's Golden Ticket Award Winner for Best New Ride, Mystic Timbers, took #5.
Kings Island was the only amusement park with two coasters in the top 10. The Beast has not ranked as high as #3 since the inaugural awards ceremony in 1998. In 2023, The Beast ranked #6 and Mystic Timbers ranked #7.
"The thrill that riding a wooden roller coaster provides is unlike any other amusement park experience," said Mike Koontz, vice president and general manager of Kings Island. "We are proud to provide our guests with one of the best wooden roller coaster riding experiences in the world when they visit Kings Island."
At 18,806 ft. no other amusement park in the world has more feet of wooden roller coaster track than Kings Island.
- The Racer: On this classic out-and-back wooden roller coaster, riders on the Blue Racer vs. Red Racer race side-by-side 3,415 feet along twin tracks to determine the winner. Opened in 1972.
- Woodstock Express: This pint-sized wooden roller coaster has all the feels and features of a traditional coaster along its 1,350 feet of track. Raising coaster riders since 1972.
